Page of Wands upright

It shows a part of you that is young, enthusiastic and straightforward: you are frank, spontaneous and without calculation. This Page has the young, still immature traits of the fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): you are ardent, fervent and full of zeal.

In your situation, this card indicates that you are curious about a particular object or goal, or that someone around you is. A new idea intrigues you, a new enthusiasm carries you off, and you are ready to try anything at the first chance, for a bit of excitement or adventure. You may want to know yourself better and look for new directions to make progress. There may be someone you admire and look up to. You may be in a subordinate position, but you have the ambition to climb to the top. You explore what is close to you with a fearless ease, and you may find yourself in an unfamiliar setting where everything seems unusual and fascinating.

Like all the Pages, this card carries the idea of a message, news or information; this one suggests above all the envoy or agent who brings news. It can signal unexpected information, a surprise or new possibilities that call for immediate action, and this news or its messenger often acts as a trigger for positive change.

The Page shows the quality of its suit in its simplest state: you live one aspect of life for its own sake, in a lighter and younger way than the Queen, free of outside pressures. Wands symbolize beginnings, so this card marks the start of a project, whether a practical project or a relationship, or a new stage of life. It also expresses that you are announcing to the world, and to yourself, that you are ready to begin. Its basic qualities are simplicity and faithfulness.

Your strengths

You are bold and full of vigor, and the strength of your character makes an impression on those who see you. You are energetic, self-assured and independent, which inspires and excites the people around you. You are frank, sincere and without artifice. In a romantic relationship, your simple eagerness makes you a faithful friend or lover. As a child, you were especially energetic, open and demanding of attention.

What holds you back

  • You are prone to sudden fits of anger or sudden surges of love that are violent and hard to calm.
  • Your enthusiasm is often irrational.
  • You find it hard to forgive an offense, and you wait a long time for the chance to get even.
  • You have a desire for power.
  • Your self-assurance and boldness can make you difficult to be around, even dangerous to others.
  • You are calmer than the Knight, so you are more helpless in the face of problems: when complications and opposition arise, you become confused and indecisive, and you no longer dare to declare yourself.
  • When you hesitate, you can become unstable and weak, and your confidence erodes if the indecision lasts.
  • When this card goes out of balance, you become superficial and theatrical, so focused on yourself that you do not notice nobody feels sorry for you, and you can be cruel, unstable and domineering.

What helps

Moving away from complexity, or gaining the maturity to face it. Listening to the news and new ideas that arrive, and acting without delay when a possibility calls for an immediate answer. Looking for new directions to get to know yourself and progress.

Love

You live the beginning of a passion with zeal, or you idealize someone you admire. In a relationship, your simple eagerness makes you faithful.

Page of Wands reversed

You may react badly when you do not get what you want: you throw a tantrum, like a child whose toy has been taken away. You may also come across as jaded and unenthusiastic, and refuse to play along. You, or someone around you, resists something new, out of fear of change or disappointment. You may push away an opportunity or a project and feel rejected yourself. You lack curiosity and focus, and details and thankless tasks bore you. Starting over from zero seems beneath you or too tiring. You do not want to look childish, naive or gullible, so you adopt a studied attitude of superiority or disdain. You can also be scatterbrained, thoughtless or hurtful.

The other side of the reversed card is the opposite. You try everything, but in a rushed, impatient way and without discernment. You want everything right now and you do not take time to judge. You like the thrill and the adrenaline rush of risk and play. In your haste, you miss what is valuable and the subtleties of the subject. You have done a lot but savored little: you flit about, imitate the fads of the moment and drop them. You can be unreliable and go from one relationship to the next without knowing what you are looking for.

Faced with complications, the Page becomes confused and indecisive. Its wish to begin runs into complexity and opposition, and it is afraid or cannot manage to declare itself. It can then become unstable and weak. Lasting indecision wears down your decision-making and your self-confidence.

In its poorly placed form, the Princess of Wands is superficial and theatrical, unstable and bossy. She is as sure of herself as she is false about what she feels, without realizing it. She is cruel and unreliable. She is so self-centered that she does not see that no one sympathizes with her dramas.

As for childhood, your enthusiasms may not have been shared, and you may have been called to order when you reached for things. Or on the contrary, you always got what you wanted and you were spoiled. A rowdy or delinquent child can also correspond to this card.

Your strengths

You are on the verge of turning your inspiration into something more fully realized.

What holds you back

  • You sulk or flare up when something is refused you.
  • You resist what is new out of fear of change or disappointment.
  • You get bored quickly with details and thankless tasks.
  • You start too fast, without judging, and give up just as fast.
  • You put on an air of superiority so as not to look naive.
  • You become indecisive when things get complicated, and your self-confidence wears down.

What helps

Getting out of the complexity or developing the maturity to face it. Moving from the inspiration of the start to the building of a project.

What the card shows

What the image shows

A young man stands upright, in the attitude of someone proclaiming something. He is unknown, but faithful, and his news is strange. His tunic carries salamanders, the legendary lizard said to live in fire. Many of these salamanders are complete, the tail joining the mouth: they show the person's whole simplicity, not finished projects.

What it means

Wands symbolize beginning. The Page therefore marks the start of a project, or of a new phase of life, and the moment when you announce to the world and to yourself that you are ready to begin. The project can be a relationship as much as a concrete plan. The Pages show the quality of their suit in its simplest state, lived for its own sake, in a lighter and younger way than the Queen. They point to children, beginnings, study and reflection. This Page is also a messenger: he carries a message or information, and more precisely an envoy, an agent or a bearer of news. An unexpected piece of news or a new possibility can act as a trigger for positive change. In love, his simple ardor points to a faithful friend or lover. He can also mark the start of a passion, or a young person's idealized admiration for someone.

Another version of the card: the Princess of Wands

The ram's heads on the altar symbolize the fires of spring. Here, the figure is nude, with feathers flowing like flames over her forehead. Her wand is crowned with the disc of the Sun, and she leaps in a flame whose shape recalls the letter Yod. She stands for the earthly part of fire, the fuel of fire: she ignites without reserve, like matter ready to burn. Her nudity shows that the element must be entirely free to unite with its partner. The scene evokes the dance of the young priestess of the lords of fire, who serves before the golden altar. Tones of red, yellow and gold dominate the card, like all the Wands figures.

What the card says about you

You are free, ardent, fervent and full of zeal, with the young and still unripe traits of fire. You are frank, direct and without calculation. You take an interest in a specific object or goal, and you are easily taken up by a new idea or enthusiasm. You are ready to try anything at the first chance, for the excitement and adventure. You want to know yourself, and you may look for new directions to progress. You may be in a subordinate position while wanting to rise to the top. You explore what is close to you with a fearless grace, and you find what is unusual fascinating. You may also be seized by zeal for a passion or a hobby. In the Princess version, your character is brilliant and courageous, with strength and a sometimes irrational enthusiasm.

Your strengths

  • You are enthusiastic, courageous and full of energy.
  • You are frank, direct, and not afraid of novelty.
  • You are curious and quick to seize a new project.
  • You are ambitious and you want to rise.
  • Your drive can also excite others, even if it can be dangerous when it is not kept in check.

What holds you back

  • You are calmer than the Knight, but faced with complications and opposition, you become confused and indecisive.
  • Your wish to begin stops when you are afraid or cannot bring yourself to declare it.
  • When you stay indecisive, you become unstable and weak, and your resolve and self-confidence wear down more and more.
  • You are quick to anger or to love, you like power, and you can hold a grudge and want revenge.
  • When you are on your bad side, you can be superficial, theatrical, cruel, unstable and domineering.
  • You believe entirely in yourself, even when all you have is a fit of mood, without realizing that you lack depth.
  • You are so sure of yourself that you do not see that others are not supporting you.
  • When this drive is blocked, you can throw a tantrum if you do not get what you want.
  • You can be jaded and refuse to play, resist novelty, fear change or disappointment, or turn down an opportunity while feeling rejected.
  • You lack curiosity and concentration, you get bored with details and chores, and you find that starting over is beneath you.
  • You may want everything, right now, without taking the time to judge, and seek the thrill of risk.
  • You have lived a lot without savoring anything, you try fashions and then throw them away.
  • You can be unreliable and move from one relationship to another without knowing what you are looking for.
  • You may have been spoiled as a child, or never seen your enthusiasms shared.

What helps

  • Leave the complexity, or develop the maturity needed to face it.
  • Do not let indecision drag on, because it damages your self-confidence.
  • Go beyond the stage of inspiration to develop what you have started.
